Hugo Keenan is held aloft at full time

745 days after The British & Irish Lions announced their 2025 itinerary, this magical journey that started at the O2 Arena and has gone via Dublin, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Melbourne ends in Sydney – where history is on the line.

Victory in the third and final Test of the Qatar Airways Lions Men’s Series would complete a Lions clean sweep against Australia and see them leave this great country unbeaten.

Based on the second Test last week, we are in for another thriller as the Wallabies bid to spoil the party at a packed Accor Stadium – the main venue for the 2000 Olympics.

Joe Schmidt and his men were so close to forcing a series decider but Hugo Keenan’s last-gasp try clinched a famous Lions win to move them into an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

Head Coach Andy Farrell is determined to win the series 3-0 and has made just two changes to his team, with Blair Kinghorn starting on the left wing in place of James Lowe and James Ryan promoted to the second row ahead of Ollie Chessum.

Australia, meanwhile, have made five changes.

Nic White makes his final Test appearance at scrum-half, while Dylan Pietsch, Taniela Tupou and Tom Hooper also start. Dave Porecki was initially due to continue at hooker but has had to withdraw, with Billy Pollard coming into the side as a result.

If the Lions win, it will be their ninth in a row, the best unbeaten run on one Lions Tour since winning 10 in a row in New Zealand in 1977.

The Lions have played two previous rugby games at Accor Stadium (both third Tests), losing 29-23 and the series 2-1 in 2001 and winning 41-16 and taking the series 2-1 in 2013.

Repeat the latter, and it will be a fine way to finish.

WHAT THEY SAID

British & Irish Lions Head Coach Andy Farrell said: “[Winning 3-0] would mean the world to us.

“It’s something we promised ourselves we would chase after and [also to] try our best to represent the group as best we possibly can.

“What goes along with that is representing the jersey and the brand of The British & Irish Lions, so we have a big responsibility this weekend.

“It’s something that we’ve talked about from day one. We put ourselves in a position to be able to put that on the line. That’s why it means so much to us.”

Forwards coach John Dalziel said: “The job is not done in any shape or form. We have a really motivated group and there is only one way we want this to end – to go unbeaten and try to win 3-0.

“We do not want anything to derail it, and we have to find that energy and go again. Australia are a good side and they are going to be good again. They will be motivated, playing here.

“There is still a performance in us. We have had 40 minutes in both of the Tests, but we want a full 80 minutes to show what the Lions are about.”

Australia head coach Joe Schmidt said: “The squad was certainly deflated after the gut-wrenching end to last week’s Test in Melbourne.

“But they have started to gather momentum in the back half of the week and will be ready to go again on Saturday.

“The support in Brisbane and Melbourne helped to lift the squad, and I know the support this weekend in Accor Stadium will again help to lift the players in the high-pressure moments that we know are coming."

KEY BATTLE – Nic White v Jamison Gibson-Park

Nic White will make his 73rd and final appearance for Australia, with the scrum-half announcing his retirement from international rugby after the third Test.

Joe Schmidt insists he is not one for sentimentality and has picked the former Exeter Chiefs playmaker on merit, and he will need to be at his very best against Jamison Gibson-Park.

The Lions No.9 has been excellent all series, with smart decision-making in both Tests so far. His box-kicking is almost an art form and he has kept the Australia back three under constant pressure, while also being alert around for any gaps around thee ruck.
