Throughout The Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia, the Lions Charity Partners are making an impact off the field and leaving a legacy Down Under.
Before the Tour began, LooseHeadz joined forces with Wooden Spoon to stage The Longest Game, breaking two world records in the process, and that was just the start.
Both organisations have been staging events in Australia – here is what LooseHeadz have been up to…
Thursday 17th July – Brothers Rugby Club Visit
LooseHeadz, joined by Ben John (The Rugby Trainer) and Lions legend Leigh Halfpenny, visited Brothers Rugby Club in Brisbane.
The pair got involved with a junior rugby session before speaking to the senior squad. The session included an introduction to LooseHeadz and our mission, and a Q&A with Leigh Halfpenny, who spoke about The Tour and what players and fans can expect across Australia.
Leigh trained against Brothers’ 1st XV during the Wales Tour back in 2012, which made for a nice full-circle moment.
Tragically, the club experienced the loss of a member to suicide just four weeks prior, making our visit all the more meaningful.
The response from the entire Brothers community was incredibly positive, and it was a real privilege to be welcomed into the heart of the club.
Friday 18th July – Brothers Rugby Club Test Luncheon
Rob and Mark Shotton, LooseHeadz co-founders, were invited to attend the Brothers Rugby Club Test Luncheon at the Sofitel in central Brisbane, an event attended by over 500 guests.
LooseHeadz were given the opportunity to take the stage and share reflections on the previous night’s visit, as well as highlighting their mission and partnership with rugby clubs across Australia.
It was a great platform to continue raising awareness and building momentum.
Saturday 19th July – Lions v Wallabies Test Match
LooseHeadz were on the ground at the stadium ahead of the first Test Match, conducting fan interviews in partnership with Charles Tyrwhitt, an official sponsor of the British & Irish Lions.
Being at the match was particularly special. LooseHeadz began as a conversation between Rob, Mark and Dave Nicoll while watching the Lions Tour of New Zealand in 2017 at their local rugby club.
Fast forward eight years, watching the Lions take on the Wallabies as the Official Charity Partner of the tour marked a milestone moment that highlights the journey the organisation have been on.
There is plenty more to come to, with these events planned over the remainder of the Tour.
