So, here we go. Andy Farrell has selected the 23 players who could become instant legends on Saturday, as The British & Irish Lions go in search of the win that would seal a famous series victory against Australia.

In the first Test of the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Men's Tour to Australia 2025, the tourists were excellent as Finn Russell’s vision and Tom Curry’s all-action display often left the Wallabies searching for answers.

Curry was among the try-scorers, alongside Sione Tuipulotu and Dan Sheehan, as the Lions won 27-19 in Brisbane, but, highlighting the depth the Lions have, Head Coach Farrell has made three changes to his side.

Here are the talking points.

NEW CENTRE PAIRING

Farrell was expected to name an entirely new centre pairing, with Bundee Aki and Garry Ringrose due to be promoted to the Test XV.

However, Ringrose flagged a head injury after Thursday’s training session and will miss the match, with Huw Jones restored to the squad.

The Scotland centre will play outside Aki, who will bring his customary direct running and raw power to the side, while Tuipulotu drops out of the 23 due to a tight hamstring.

"Garry was actually selected and unfortunately in training today he's had to pull out," said Farrell.

"It's head-related again. It was literally as I was walking off the field. He came to me and, once it's mentioned, that's that.

"So there was no incident. He was feeling good, well in advance of Tuesday, and fit and ready to play.

"No incident through the game at all, nothing yesterday and nothing this morning at all. but with these types of things, players are getting very good at telling the truth of how they feel, so it was a no-brainer to make the change straight away."

CHESSUM STARTS

On a long Tour, it is inevitable injuries start to have an effect and Joe McCarthy is another who has been ruled out.

The Ireland second row started the first Test but has not recovered in time to play in the second and his place has been taken by England’s Ollie Chessum.

The Leicester Tigers ace is a versatile forward, who can cover both second row and flanker, and his selection means he resumes his international partnership with England teammate and Lions captain Maro Itoje.

James Ryan has been called onto the bench as second-row cover, while Tadhg Beirne starts at blindside flanker and is equally adept in the second row if needed.

MORGAN IN

After an impressive performance against First Nations & Pasifika XV, Wales captain Jac Morgan is set for his Lions Test debut.

The flanker has been called onto the bench, replacing England’s Ben Earl, where he will provide cover for the starting trio of Beirne, Curry and Jack Conan.

Morgan played 50 minutes at Marvel Stadium on Tuesday and, as the sole Welsh representative in the Test team, will be out to put on a show at the MCG.

"I've had the opportunity and I just try and train and perform the best I can. It's a highly competitive position and Tom Curry was outstanding on Saturday,” he said after Tuesday’s game.

"He's a great player and so is Josh (Van der Flier), so the competition is always high in that position and we try and get the best out of each other.

''It would be a massive honour and a very proud moment to be selected.”

WALLABIES POWER

With a Test under their belts, Andy Farrell is expecting a different Wallabies team to the one the Lions faced in Brisbane – literally.

Australia have made three changes to their side, hooker David Porecki, lock Will Skelton and local back-rower Rob Valetini are all back from injury in what will be the Wallabies’ 700th Test.

They will add plenty of raw power to the Australia side, as the hosts look to level the series and take it down to a decider.

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said: “The squad has recovered well after a very physical first test and the week's preparation here in Melbourne has allowed us a bit more time together."

“We took some confidence from the second half last week, but we know we’ll need to improve further against a Lions team that will bring plenty of fire to the contest on Saturday night.”

FARRELL ON THE BENCH

After an impressive performance while captaining the Lions against First Nations & Pasifika XV, Owen Farrell is back in the Test team.

For a fourth successive Lions Tour, the England back will be part of a Test match-day squad after being named on the bench to cover both fly-half and centre.

Meanwhile, Blair Kinghorn fills the No.23 jersey and will cover the back three positions after recovering from injury to play against First Nations & Pasifika XV.

“With Blair back fit, it gives you a different dynamic on the bench covering the back three, which is pretty important,” Farrell said. “Owen is giving you the option there to cover 10-12.”
