Gregor Brown joined up with the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia 2025 midway through the campaign.

The lock, who can also play in the back row, was on tour with Scotland in Fiji and New Zealand before joining fellow countrymen Ewan Ashman and Rory Sutherland in Melbourne ahead of the match with First Nations & Pasifika XV.

He came off the bench in the 53rd minute to make his Lions debut, helping the tourists close out a hard-fought victory.

Brown made his international debut against Canada in July 2024 and has since become a regular part of Gregor Townsend’s squad.

It followed a steady rise through the age groups, representing his country at Under-18 and Under-20 level.

Brown began his rugby career in Aberdeen, playing at school and for Gordonians, though his childhood was far from ordinary as he spent seven years living in Nigeria and Egypt due to his father’s job in the oil industry.

He revealed that missing out on a place in the Scotland Under-16 squad spurred him on to fully commit to rugby, before he represented Caledonia North.

He said: “Nobody likes being dropped from anything, do they? So was a big thing and it made me realise that I was quite close to something good,” he told The Press & Journal.

His first steps into senior rugby came with Boroughmuir Bears in 2019. He then joined Glasgow Warriors’ academy ahead of the 2020-21 season and made his senior debut in the same season against Leinster. He signed his first professional deal with Warriors in 2022.

Fellow Lions Tourist Blair Kinghorn is Brown’s first cousin, with the pair playing alongside each other for Scotland for the first time in the 2025 Six Nations.

“It was always a dream to play with him for Scotland,” said Brown. “I remember playing against him in the 1872 Cup which was cool enough, but to play with him was such a huge thing for both of us and our families.

“Early on in my career, having someone who’d been there and done that in the family was huge for me, just being able to know I could reach out and ask questions and get his advice.”
