Ewan Ashman was holding childhood memories close as he joined his maiden British & Irish Lions Tour.
The Edinburgh Rugby hooker and his father watched on from their living room as the Lions embarked to South Africa in 2009, a key moment in inspiring Ashman's rugby journey.
Sixteen years later, Ashman was finally able to call himself a Lion after he was called up by Andy Farrell as injury cover to join the squad ahead of their second Test with Australia.
The hooker made his Scotland debut in November 2021 against Australia and has earned 28 caps for his nation to date.
An impressive 2025 saw him as a constant for Scotland during the Guinness Six Nations, before wearing the No.2 jersey with confidence as part of their summer tour to New Zealand and Fiji.
Now joining a 44-strong Lions squad in Australia, Ashman is looking back at where it all started.
“One of the first things I thought about was the Lions Tour in 2009 when my old man got me a jersey and we watched all the games together," he said.
"There is a picture and he’s in his navy training jersey and we’re celebrating after watching one of the games."
Known for his try-scoring exploits from the maul, Ashman was born in Toronto, Canada but has strong Scottish roots through his father and made his start for Premiership Rugby side Sale Sharks whilst also excelling at age-grade level for Scotland.
Ashman is now firmly embedded within the Edinburgh set up, joining the side ahead of the 2023/24 season.
