The British & Irish Lions enjoyed arguably their most impressive performance of The Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia so far as they eased past an AUNZ Invitational XV 48-0 in Adelaide.

It was the perfect way to warm-up for next Saturday’s first Test in Brisbane – here are the key talking points which emerged…

Jones in pole position

Huw Jones has been a consistently impressive performer on this Tour so far and enjoyed another stellar 50 minutes here.

A constant menace with ball in hand, the Scottish centre made a number of impressive line breaks to help the tourists gain vital field position.

With the news that Garry Ringrose is out of the first Test as he continues his recovery from concussion, Jones appears to be in pole position for the 13 jersey in Brisbane. Perhaps his slightly early withdrawal came with that in mind.

Farrell slots in

Elsewhere in the midfield, when Jones made way, Owen Farrell was finally able to let his rugby do the talking after all the discussion around his arrival with the touring squad.

It was perhaps an ideal time at which to make his introduction to his fourth Tour. A comfortable lead, a tiring opposition and a backline in a confident mood - and Farrell slotted straight in.

He released Henry Pollock down the left almost instantly, and a later surge through midfield helped set up Scott Cummings’ try.

Farrell’s grubber kick late on also laid the groundwork for Pollock’s score and put the cap on an impressive cameo.

Earl stands up tall

Ben Earl was namechecked by former Lions captain Sam Warburton around the hour mark as the tourists’ most impressive performer, and those in charge of the Player of the Match award agreed.

The Saracens and England No.8 delivered his latest eye-catching display in Lions red at the Adelaide Oval, leading the way for carries yet again.

One of his most forceful saw him gain hard yards in the build-up to Cummings’ try while he also earned two turnovers on the floor.

The back row competition is fierce, but Earl has done his chances no harm at all.

White ready to roll

Ben White was a late addition to the Lions squad but hit the ground running and seized his first opportunity from the start.

The Scotland scrum-half exploited a gap in ruthless fashion to go under the posts for his 10th-minute score and kept the Lions on the front foot throughout.

White was diligent in his defensive duties too, matching Earl with two turnovers and making a try-saving tackle in the second half.

A versatile figure, White even finished the match on the wing. Has he played his way into Test squad contention?

Keenan back at it

Hugo Keenan was a touch rusty in his first Lions start against NSW Waratahs last weekend, but the Irish full-back looked much more like his usual self here.

It was his innovative work which led to the opening score, Keenan sprinting down the touchline and taking a quick lineout to release the space for Van der Merwe to score the first of his three tries.

Keenan also provided the final pass for Van der Merwe’s hat-trick score and was on hand to effectively mop up kicks as the last line of defence. With Blair Kinghorn’s fitness uncertain, the Lions needed Keenan to shine – and he did so.
